Emergency Functional Needs Registration
What if an emergency were to occur, would you need special assistance due to a medical condition or disability? If so, the New Fairfield Office of Emergency Management and the New Fairfield Department of Social Services has a registry for people who may require assistance in the event of a disaster, such as a tornado, severe storm, or a chemical spill. This is a voluntary registration and the information submitted will be used by emergency personnel to identify those with functional needs if an emergency should occur. If you, a member of your family, or a neighbor may require assistance in the event of an emergency or you would like to update an already existing form, please contact the Office of Emergency Management at (203) 312-5723 or the New Fairfield Department of Social Services at (203) 312-5669. Additionally, you may download a Functional Needs Registration Form HERE
Applications are being accepted starting September 1st. If interested in applying, please contact New Fairfield Social Services at 203 312-5669

**A liquid assests test is an additional basic eligiblility requirement.
Liquid assets include: checking, savings, CD's, stocks/shares, bonds, annuities, certificates of deposit and individual retirement accounts. (Individual Retirement Accounts are considered to be liquid assets if the accounts are in the name of a household member who is 59-and-one-half years old or more.) The purpose of the liquid assets test is to try to ensure that winter heating assistance dollars go to households most in need; that is, to people without the financial means to heat their home.
Operation Fuel requires that all applicants apply for CEAP prior to applying to Operation Fuel, for primary heat sources. If you are denied a grant from CEAP or have exhausted your CEAP benefit, it may then be determined if you are eligible for a grant benefit.
If you qualify for one of the three Medicare Savings Programs (depending on your income), DSS will pay your Medicare Part B premium each month. In addition, some enrollees will be covered for Medicare deductibles and co-insurance.
