History
The New Fairfield Senior Sunshine Center was established by the Commission on the Aging in response to a 1985 survey to assess the needs of the elderly populationin New Fairfield. The Center was opened in October of 1986 using the firehall 3 days a week. As senior usage increased it became more apparent that more space and days were needed. Momentum to support the approach grew in town. Some 4500 square feet of space was leased in Heritage Plaza and was opened in February of 1997.
Under the administration of John Hodge, property was purchased at 33 Route 37 and abuilding of more than 9,000 square feet was erected. The Senior Center moved into that location on July 3, 2009.
